Will I ever be made redundant because of AI? Those were my exact thoughts 10 years ago when I witnessed the rise of Machine Learning and AI startups and reflected on what I want to become in life.

Hence, I chose a profession that is based on trust and human interactions as it would take a while for AI to be able to compete with me, I figured. But just because negotiators can’t be replaced by AI does not mean they shouldn’t look into it.

So here’s what you should know:

How will AI impact the academic field of negotiation?

Artificial intelligence (AI) has the potential to significantly impact the field of negotiation in a number of ways. Here are a few examples:

AI-powered negotiation tools:

Chatbots and virtual assistants can help facilitate negotiations by automating certain tasks, such as gathering information and making initial offers. These tools can also help negotiators analyze data and identify potential negotiation strategies, allowing them to make more informed decisions.

Research on AI and negotiation:

The use of AI in negotiation is an active area of research in the academic field of negotiation. Researchers are exploring how AI can be used to model negotiation behaviour, understand how negotiations unfold, and identify best practices for successful negotiations.

Teaching negotiation with AI:

AI can also be used as a teaching tool in negotiation courses. For example, students can use AI-powered negotiation simulations to practice their negotiation skills and learn about different negotiation strategies.

Overall, AI has the potential to significantly enhance the field of negotiation by providing new tools and insights for practitioners and researchers, and by providing new opportunities for teaching and learning.

Now, if you are a true sceptic like me and challenge the overall findings – fair enough! Just know that this text was written by ChatGPT, a model by OpenAI. All I did was ask the question “How will AI impact the field of negotiation? and Have you considered how far you will go negotiating with ChatGPT?”
